TORONTO, Ontario, August 25th, 2020

AECO Innovation Lab is proud to announce that the Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON) has joined the One Ontario Program.

The AECO One Ontario - RESCON Partnership will drive research into an enhanced Development Approval and Permitting Process - generating improved levels of productivity for all stakeholders.

RESCON is Ontario's leading association of residential builders committed to providing industry leadership and fostering innovation in domestic housing construction. RESCON is involved in many aspects of construction, including building code and technical standards reform, labour relations and contract negotiations, innovative labour training initiatives, market housing affordability, and liaison with all levels of government representing trade concerns in the province.

One Ontario is a new, collaborative Research and Development Initiative, engaging all levels of government, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) companies, software providers and academics - to create innovative data exchange guidelines to harmonize the municipal development approval process. The resulting communications protocols will dramatically decrease permit application times, improve enforcement and reduce burden costs to every municipality.

Arash Shahi, CEO of AECO says, “RESCON is an essential partner whose involvement is vital to One Ontario. RESCON’s support and experience in all aspects of the AEC ecosystem, especially in the areas of research, education and industry advocacy - will play an important part in One Ontario.”

“The successful evolution of One Ontario is important in creating a more predictable environment for housing in our province – which can then drive industry productivity and ultimately deliver homes that are affordable for all Ontarians” says Richard Lyall, president of RESCON. “The Streamlined Data Exchange Framework being proposed by One Ontario, can result in a seamless Development Application and Permitting Process between AEC companies and municipal governments. This transformation creates more favourable conditions that quickens the pace of construction, minimizes risk for everyone and generates efficiencies long-overdue in the industry.”
