One Ontario sets the stage for new Streamlined Data Exchange Framework between Municipalities, AEC Community, and Provincial Agencies
TORONTO, Ontario, August 19th, 2020
AECO Innovation Lab announces One Ontario, an innovative research and development program engaging municipal and provincial governments, architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) companies, software providers and academics in a collaborative effort to create data exchange guidelines for the Development Approval and Permitting Process across the province.
AECO’s One Ontario Collaboration will transform Development Approval and Permitting Procedures province-wide — with new digital automation guidelines that will build Ontario’s future.
The Current Challenge
Municipalities are facing significant resource constraints in delivering development and approval services as mandated by the Province of Ontario. Local governments have endeavoured to improve the efficiencies of the application process through the use of available technological tools – but the absence of any electronic data exchange guidelines between government and AEC industries has hampered efficiency gains, driven up costs and increased project risks for everyone involved.
Our One Ontario Solution
The One Ontario program will streamline the development approval process and reduce municipal costs by harmonizing and standardizing the data and information exchange flow between clients, municipal systems, and provincial agencies. Developed guidelines will be aligned with regulatory principles set by the province and are informed by technology and process advancements within AEC industries.
“To address municipal and industry challenges will require remarkably close co-operation amongst all levels of government, AEC companies, software solution providers, and research talent at our universities,” says Arash Shahi, CEO at AECO. “Through this innovative AECO program, stakeholders can collaborate to gain greater productivity, increased economic activity and improved social outcomes - that are much larger than could ever be achieved if we all operated alone.”
