Robin completed his Boilermaker Apprenticeship, in his native Scotland, in 1977. In 1980 he emigrated to Canada to work in the St. John’s Shipyard, and then moved to Ontario to work at the St. Catharine’s drydocks and shipbuilding.

Robin then moved into aerospace at de Havilland/Bombardier where he became the Operations Manager. Robin led the team that assembled the first Dash 8 Series 400 aircraft. The program now has almost 600 delivered aircraft to date.

Robin’s next career adventure took him to Ontario Power Generation’s Pickering Nuclear Power Generating Station. In 2010 Robin was responsible for the over 1200 Building Trades Union Craft personnel that completed the $100m Vacuum Building Outage.

He was invited to Co-Chair the Construction Industry Institute’s (CII) research team RT-252, a five-year study into improving craft trades productivity. CII - Topic-Summary-Details (construction-institute.org)

In 2015 Robin was appointed as the Construction Manager for the Refurbishment of the four Reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. This $13 billion project was the largest project in Canada at that time.

In 2017 Robin, after 43 years of working, decided to retire. Through his understanding of the Building Trades Robin was asked to become involved in ensuring that there will be enough boilermakers available to complete the Nuclear Refurbishments at Ontario Power Generation as well as at Bruce Power’s Nuclear Station. Working through the Electrical Power Systems Construction Association (EPSCA) he has established a Group of Employers consisting of the Owners, OPG and Bruce Power, 4 construction companies, (Aecon, BWXT, Black and McDonald, and E.S Fox) and the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, (IBB). The GoE will be the central point of contact if Temporary Foreign Workers are required to supplement the union membership in Ontario.

Robin volunteers as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Construction Users Council (OCUC). As the pandemic resulted in in person meetings being cancelled Robin took on the accountability for establishing the Virtual Board and Council meetings and hosts six board meetings and six council meeting yearly.

Robin is also a member of the National Council of Origin Recruitment, ORIGIN works together with job seekers, Indigenous communities, and industry to enhance workforce readiness and create culturally safe employment pathways.

Robin likes to spend his free time with his wife and family, and golfs whenever the sun is shining.
