Matt Farrell has been transforming his community over the past 20 years in his role as the Manager of Building and Planning / Chief Building Official at the Town of Huron-Kinloss. He oversees building approvals, construction, planning and applications and consultation on large- scale projects. The Township of Huron-Kinloss has been at the forefront in the province for introducing environmentally conscious initiatives to protect the natural beauty of its community. Matt has pioneered policy development around the siting of large wind energy generation projects, maintenance of onsite septic systems and programs that promote agriculture stewardship. His tenacious leadership has driven important initiatives including digitizing the Town’s building permitting process.
As the immediate past President of the Ontario Buildings Officials Association (OBOA), he is committed to establishing and maintaining a high professional standard in the administration of the building code. The association spans 1,900 members across 22 chapters, who represent more than $38.5B in construction value and 512,500 construction jobs. Matt’s continued leadership results in the construction of safer, more sustainable and accessible buildings in Ontario.
Mr. Farrell brings his unparalleled understanding of governmental processes and policy experience to AECO to drive the necessary transformative change to future-proof the development sector. He is a policy wonk whose work extends beyond building approvals, working tirelessly to create resident-centric communities ensuring all facets of the planning and development processes are inclusive and efficient.
Outside of work, Matt spends his time giving back to the community through volunteerism. He coaches multiple sports teams, and fathers his set of boy/girl twins with his fiancé, Kylie.
