A broad lens and wholistic perspective
Paul spent most of the first decade of his career in the field of forensic engineering, where he developed a passion for evaluating and solving complex problems while thinking outside the box. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated experience in a variety of different aspects of engineering, design and construction. This has cultivated a wholistic approach and broad lens, making him a valued advisor on all aspects of the development cycle.
Paul currently serves as Director of Building Science and Innovation at the Residential Construction Council of Ontario (RESCON), where he spearheads innovative construction techniques and building science research to help guide the way homes and condos are built. He is also actively involved in Habitat for Humanity, to which he has volunteered his time and resources.
“My greatest satisfaction is being part of creating lasting buildings to improve communities and society as a whole,” says Paul. “I’m also a strong proponent of Building Information Modeling and firmly believe that it will serve as a catalyst to modernize the construction sector and regulatory approvals process. It’s exciting to be able to contribute to the collaborative projects that AECO is undertaking that will lead to this modernization.”
Informing the future of the AEC sector
Collectively, Paul and the rest of the industry leaders on the BoA represent unprecedented depth and breadth of professional experience. The Board also includes members from the public, private and academic sectors with specializations in engineering, construction, real estate, business, finance, change strategy and policy. The BoA has been assembled to facilitate digital transformation in the AEC sector by developing productive relationships between industry, government and financial partners.
Arash Shahi, CEO of AECO says, “Paul is a technically-minded thinker who makes a fine addition to the AECO Board of Advisors. He has an important role to play on initiatives such as One Ontario, which will bring both the public and private stakeholders together to improve the development approval process in Ontario.”
