Ontario Building Code app now provides customized user experience
TORONTO, Ontario, Dec. 21, 2020
My Building Code has launched an update to the app that delivers a digital version of the Ontario Building Code (OBC), making regulations accessible anytime, anywhere, on any device. The new version of the My Building Code app introduces the foundation to enable users to customize their experience based on how they use the OBC.
The new version of the My Building Code app introduces the foundation to enable users to customize their experience based on how they use the Ontario Building Code.
The first step to a personalized building code experience
For building practitioners who rely on the OBC to perform their day-to-day duties, the initial launch of My Building Code back in September 2020 transformed their building code experience with an easy-to-navigate app that is always up-to-date. The first version of the product included features such as a search function for quick lookup and pop-up definitions for clarification when needed.
Users of the product have raved about how convenient it makes navigation of the OBC: “Since I learned about My Building Code... I haven’t taken my paper copy off the shelf!” says Jeremy Bender, a large and complex buildings inspector. Feedback from users has been a key tenet of the My Building Code development plan, and has influenced which new features will be introduced.
Based on user feedback, the latest version of My Building Code includes the ability to create custom bookmarks – synced across user devices – for frequently accessed sections of the Code, navigation improvements and the ability to copy and paste sections of the code from within the app to other documents. Functionality such as Ontario Building Code Volume 2, personalized comments, calculators and team collaboration are planned for future releases.
Free during the introductory period
The developers of My Building Code are committed to creating a product that meets the needs of its user base. With this in mind, the app will continue to be available for free during the introductory period to allow professionals who use the OBC to provide further feedback. This will, in turn, influence future features and shape the product to meet their needs.
The latest My Building Code version is available now for web browsers; in the next few days, the update will be available in the App store for iOS devices and in Google Play for Android devices.
