Dr. Carl Haas is a world-renowned professor specializing in research and teaching in construction human-robotic systems, infrastructure computer vision, capital projects process analytics, construction productivity, and circular economy in the built environment. Over the last 35 years, Dr. Haas has held nearly 100 significant grants and contracts worth approximately $28M of cash funding.
Dr. Haas’ expertise and research is perfectly aligned with AECO’s Research and Development vertical. His research has been commercialized to deliver solutions to real-world problems including the development of automated materials locating and tracking technologies and the development of 3D scanning and machine vision technologies for progress tracking and fabrication control. Dr. Haas is an important voice in the sector and is regularly called upon for his knowledge and expertise.
At the core of Carl’s research and work, is his passion to making a substantial contribution to a better quality of life for all Canadians. He has been recognized for his significant contributions by the ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Computing in Civil Engineering Award (2019), CSCE (Canadian Society of Civil Engineers) Alan Russell Award (2019) and the University of Waterloo Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision (2016-2017). Carl spends his spare time sculpting, painting, hitting different types of balls, and reading science fiction.
